For over 60 years, NSS has provided services for students who, becasue of limited resources and opportunities, faced challenges in access to colleges and universities. Since 1963, over 3 million students of all races, gender, ages and economic backgrounds have taken advantage of the opportunities provided by NSS.
Our Services
Funded by individual gifts, corporate donations and private foundations, NSS provides a range of offerings, including Student-College Interview Sessions (SCIS), scholarship search programs, early awareness programs, community educational forums, career and education counseling services and scholarship management services.
Student-College Interview Sessions
The Student-College Interview Sessions (SCIS), are the hallmark of NSS. Held in more than 45 cities across the United States, these sessions, (also known as college fairs) allow students the opportunity to meet personally with college representatives and pursue their interest in higher education. Participating institutions include Ivy League Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, traditional colleges, junior colleges, vocational schools, military institutions and others. Recruitment and admissions officers, financial aid officers, administrators, professors and alumni conduct one-on-one sessions with students, parents and counselors.
Regardless of their test scores, GPA, ethnicity or economic background, all high school students, along with their parents, teachers and counselors are invited to attend SCIS events. All SCIS events are free to attendees.
SCIS Volunteers and Partners
As a not for profit organization, NSS welcomes the support of volunteers and partners across the country. From assisting students with registration, to hosting exhibitors, to serving as keynote speakers for student orientations, our volunteers and partners are essential.
